About the Film
Tobbell Films’ second production was a larger scale
project, with a cast of twelve, a crew of twenty and a
budget of £1,500. “Beautiful People”
was written and directed by Tobias Tobbell and produced
by Alison Mulford and Tim J. Berry. The film was completed
in October 2003 and has been very well received at several
screenings since, including POV, Cardiff, Portobello Film
Festival, 2004 and The 291 Gallery. The
Story
Following a dream sequence in which five beautiful models
pose for our protagonist, he wakes to find himself sleeping
in a doorway at the party. A variety of different events
then occur, which result in each one of the real-life
models eventually offering themselves to him.
The film is divided into three parts, each focusing on
the same period in time but in different genres and from
different perspectives. The first section is slow and
dreamy, with a pretentious French voice-over. Part two
has a slick music video style and part three is shot in
one take, featuring a commentary by a very arrogant, very
misled director.
